Health Care Consultancy Services at The Child Care Resource Network

Hello, my name is Kyle Hennicke RNMS, PNP, and I am the Health Care Consultant (HCC) at The Child Care Resource Network (CCRN).   I came to the Resource Network in August 2008, when Chris Eberl RN retired after several years of dedicated service.   I’d like to familiarize you with the services I am here to provide.

I am here to answer your questions about health or health care related issues in daycare settings, or about program staff and children’s health in general.   You may call me at (716)877-6666 x 3039 or e-mail me at khennicke@wnychildren.org.   I am available to meet with you at the CCRN, or we may schedule an appointment at your setting for educational assistance or a site visit.   A site visit is a requirement of The Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) during your licensing period.

Another part of regulation in daycare settings has to do with the   “Health Care Plan”.   Initially, you are made aware of the health care plan in the Health and Safety course.   I am here to assist you in the development of your health care plan, or review a plan you have filled out using the template provided by the Office of Children and Family Services.   OCFS forms for daycare may be found at the following site, www.ocfs.state.ny.us/main/forms/day_care/    I encourage you to visit this site to find all the OCFS forms currently in use. The Health care plan templete is very user friendly and can be updated on-line.

As a daycare provider you are required to have a health care plan. You should have children in care who require medication administration, your health care plan must contain additional sections, and you must complete specific training.   You are then certified to administer medications to children in your care, and are referred to as a MAT (for medication administration training) provider administrant.

MAT providers administrants are required to have a Health Care Consultant (HCC) review their MAT health care plan, and oversee the safety of medication administration in your program.   I can provide this service for you as well.   OCFS also maintains a list of other MAT trainers in your region.

The Child Care Resource Network has an ongoing program of professional development for all member and non-member providers.   You may go to our website www.wnychildren.org to join the Child Care Resource Network, and explore the benefits that membership in the network provides.   Please familiarize yourself with the outstanding child care expertise of our faculty and staff.   I am one of many professionals here that provide training both at the CCRN, and in the community.

In closing, please call or e-mail me with any questions you may have with regard to any of the above topics.   If you have a need or question about any other subject related to daycare, I can refer you to the staff person here who can best meet your need.   Thank you and let’s all keep our children safe and secure.
